How to MIG Weld a Welcome Sign [Guide]


Olivia with Hobart Welding Products walks through step-by-step instructions on how to create a welcome sign using the NEW Airforce® 27i plasma cutter and Handler® 210MVP™ MIG welder.

Tools and Materials Needed:

Steps:

Make a center mark 2" from the top of the 1' x 4' x 1/8" mild steel sheet.
Step 2
Tape the letter stencils down on the 1' x 4' x 1/8" mild steel sheet.
Step 3
Mark a 1/2" below each letter.
Step 4
Trace each letter using the stencils.
Step 5
Remove the letter stencils.
Step 6
Trace the leaves on the 2' x 2' x 1/8" mild steel sheet.
Step 7
Remove the leaf stencils.
Step 8
Add details to the leaves.
Step 9
Move material to hang off table, so you are not cutting on the table, secure with a clamp.
Step 10
Cut out details on the inside of the leaves.
Step 11
Cut out the outline of leaves.
Step 12
Cut out the inside of each letter, using a scrap piece of metal for a straight edge.
Step 13
Use the Hobart® Handler® 210MVP MIG welder to tack weld the leaves to the sign.
Step 14
Add finishing touches, such as paint.
