How to MIG Weld a Glass Coffee Table [Guide]


Follow step-by-step instructions on how to create a coffee table using your favorite Hobart® welder.

Tools and Materials Needed:

  • Hobart® Multi-Handler™ 200 multiprocess welder
  • 2 – 1” x 2” x 14GA tube 37” (Top frame)
  • 2 – 1” x 2” x 14GA tube 17” (Top frame)
  • 4 – 1.5” x 1.5” x 14GA tube 18” (Legs)
  • 2 – 1” x 1” x 14GA tube 37” (Bottom frame)
  • 2 – 1” x 1” x 14GA tube 17” (Bottom frame)
  • Metal saw or cut-off wheels
  • Grinder (4 ½”)
  • Flap wheel
  • Paint marker
  • Magnets
  • Framing square 

*Tools used in building but not required 

Material Dimensions:

Steps:

step 1
Measure and cut metal tubing.
step 2
Clean steel to remove rust.
step 3
Center side steel tubing to corner tubing and weld.

step 4
Weld all four table sides together to build frame.
step 5
Add caps to corner tubing and flatten tops.
step 6
Roll arches into accent steel tubing.
step 7
Clamp and hammer each end of the accent steel tubing until desired height is achieved.

Tack weld arched steel to base.
If desired look is achieved, finish welding. If adjustments need to be made, cut tack weld, make changes and finish welding.

Paint table base, then place and secure glass top.
