Hobart HB-28 wire source. Great Price

I thought I would post this since several people have posted questions about where to buy this welding wire.

I know Dan will be real happy since he likes HB-28 wire so much.

Some prices on Hobart HB-28 wire. They're in stock and ready to ship.

.035 10# roll $22 + shipping.
.030 10# roll $23 + shipping.

Randy also has Harris .035 70ER-S6 in 33# roll for $34.65 + shipping.

I'm sure he can get other wires for you, but you'll to ask.

Shipping should be very reasonable since they get a discounted rate from UPS.

I've purchased welding supplies from Randy and have been very happy with the price and service. Randy's userid on this board is, "SPC_Randy"

I got my order today

Attached are pics of some items I ordered and received today. Items were ordered on Wednesday, 9/16/09 and received on Monday, 9/21/09.

I got two 10# spools of Hobart HB-28 wire in .030 and .035 sizes. I noticed the .030 HB-28 was made in China. I called and talked to Hobart and they said that is where the wires are now being manufactured. They assured me that it will run just like the ones made in Italy or USA. I must have gotten one of the old remaining Made in Italy .035 roll of HB-28.

Also received 44# spool of .035 wire, some misc brass fittings, wire cleaning pads, and some .030 Bernard Centerfire contact tips.

All items were shipped via UPS and arrived quickly and in good condition. The boxes were well packed with lots of packing and taped all over.

Overall, I'm very happy with the quality of the product quick shipping and GREAT prices. The shipping charge was extremely reasonable for the amount of weight involved. I had over 80 lbs of stuff mailed to the house.

Charles,

I picked up a 10 pound roll of .030 from Airgas today. Wire prices must be dropping a little, because I think I paid in the $25 -$27 range for the last couple rolls. I was a little suprised, but definitely not disapointed, when the saleman state I owed him $22 for this roll. No made in China rolls on the shelf yet. The inventory they have in stock right now is out of Italy. All the past Italy rolls have ran real well. I'll find out shortly how this roll performs, because I'll be heading out to play with the Ironman 230 in about one hour.

Loaners:

HH 210 - solid performer
HH 125 EZ - impressive little fluxcore only unit
HH 140 - excellent low end arc with .023 & C-25
IM230 - Somewhat soft arc with very good weld puddle wet out. Light spatter producer at the top end. No longer in my possession had to send it back.

Dan,

That is a great price from Airgas. You must have a good Airgas that stocks Hobart wires. My local Airgas does not stock these little 10 lb rolls. I'm sure the lower demand for welding supplies has resulted in prices coming down.

For everyone else that does not have a LWS that stocks these wires, I think getting them for around $27 shipped from Randy is not a bad deal. I figure having to drive around town to find the wire is worth $5 in shipping.

Charles,

Have you tried the China made roll yet?

I ran my Made in Italy roll of .030, and it performed well on the Migmaster 250, HH 187, and IM 230. I honestly wasn't expecting bad results, because I had already ran a few rolls out of Italy in the past.

My past experience with Made in China wires has been they produce a good arc but poor weld puddle wet out. If Hobart HB-28 goes strictly to coming out of China, I may switch to L-56. A roll of .030 L-56, that I purchased recently, has been perfroming pretty good. Meaning a clean arc with very good weld puddle wet out.

My son's basketball practices and games have been eating up most of my free time, so I haven't been welding much lately, at home, over the past few months. Meaning my consumption of HB-28 wire has been slow lately, so the two rolls that I have are from Italy and the USA. The Hobart wire I picked up from the farm store while field testing the Ironman 230 was out of China too. It ran similar to the HB-28 rolls I have in stock. If my next visit to Airgas results in me finding nothing but made in China HB-28 I'll have to move on to another brand of wire.

So far, every roll of Forney wire I've purchased has been out of Mexico. My rolls of Radnor have been from Mexico too.

Its expensive, but ESAB Spool Arc 86 is very nice running wire.

Lincoln L-56 has been a roller coaster ride. I'll get one roll that runs real well then I 'll get another roll that doesn't run as well. Weld puddle wetout has always been real good though.
