Ran some more beads

With 10 mins of welding time under my belt I ran some more beads this morning

I tried the basic drag motion and the circular motion - for that 'stacked dimes' look but I don't think it worked very well

At one time I tried turning the voltage and WFS down just for fun and it immediately blew a hole in the metal...I thought this would produce less heat if anything ? I left the voltage alone and turned up the WFS from 50 to 70 and that worked a bit better. Can anyone explain to me the relation betweek voltage setting and WFS and what they do ? In other words when do you increase or decrease them ?

Please feel free to comment on the beads as far as what I'm doing wrong and if you have any suggestions for fixing it.

Here's a pic that shows two beads, the top one was a drag motion and the bottom was circular motion.

The details:

MM175
16 guage sheet metal
.23 Hobart wire
Mostly door chart settings

When you ran the bottom bead and did the circular motion, were you pulling the gun still or pushing? I'm a newbie also but I've found that if I push and do the circular motion I get better looking welds than if I pull (by better looking I mean flatter or with deeper penetration).

That's a good question. I think the gun was more or less perpendicular with maybe a slight push angle to it.

I really need to understand the basics of adjusting the voltage and wfs values and keep practicing. Small 16 ga sheets @ $6 a pc are sure going to get expensive after I burn through a few of them a week

You "push" solid wire,...."Pull" fluxcore.
