HH135 v. HTP 120

I am just starting to get into welding am comparing all of the different entry level welders. I will just be doing automotive work (Esp sheet metal), and household projects, so I don't need the most powerfull welder out there.

I have the opprotunity to get an extreemly good deal on a reman HH135 from Tool King or for about the same money get a HTP 120. The HTP claims to have a better Drive system that has two rollers that feed the wire (supposedly you don't get that with the Hobart until you get to their 250 amp machines). HTP also says that it has copper windings that will allow for a smoother arc. It appears that the HTP120 has a lower Max power, but higher amps at 20% then the HH135. Finnally, the HTP has wheels on it so you dont need a cart.

I have not seen any bad press on either Hobart or HTP. I realize that it might be harder to obtain replacement parts for the HTP but I am not concerned about that. I am also considering stepping up to the HH175 but I am not sure the extra expense is nessesary for the kind of stuff I am going to be doing. Esp since I only have one 220v outlet in my garage (runs my air compressor) and it is kind of far from the expected welding work area. (how long is the power cord on the hh175?)

I appreciate any thoughts or comments on this.

Thanks
Dan

Go with the 175,,, soooo much better machine Run another circuit if you have to. The smaller machines are not desined to run on cords anyway

I would stick with the Hobart, either the HH135 or 175. I have the HH135 and A MM251. The 135 gives a nice arc and you will always know how to get support, should you ever need it. Might not be the case with the HTP. The gun is 2 feet shorter on the HTP also...Good luck...Scott

From my experience (1 year +) with the HH135 you won't be sorry. As for the dual drive rolls, I never once had a feed problem with the Hobart. I only sold (wish I didn't have to) to get money for a Millermatic 175. I gotta go with Sberry27 with this , get the Hobart 175, and run a dedicated 240V to where you want to weld, and get (or make) a 8/3 or 10/3 extension cord if you have a need to get further. I know it is no problem to get service on either the Hobart I had, or the Miller I have, I'm not so sure with the HTP. Just my opinion...
