Titanium at Boeing Surplus

I was at Boeing surplus in Kent, Wa the other day and they have 3 pallet boxes of Ti sheet scrap in assorted sizes and gauges.. $8 a lb

They also have several bundles of 3'x6'x.040 Ti sheet for $140 ea..

Lots of other junk there..

Is that a good price for Ti? I have no use for it but I thought I might try welding some for fun.

Scott,
Not related to your question about titanium, but you revived some fond memories of Boeing Surplus. I used to live in Federal Way and would go there quite often. I still have my metal workbench with Columbian vise for a whopping $15.00. Plus all the other metal working tools I bought there. Man I miss that place. Take and Post a pic next time you go there...LOL....I'm sure with all the knowledge on this forum, someone will be able to answer your ?????......Wheat

Yeah it is a fun place to blow a few hours..
Getting out without buying something is tough..
I think I've only made it out one time without having to fork over some cash. Even the wife couldn't resist 10 ring binders for $1
Last time I got out with 18 snap-on impact sockets for $15 and a $1 OSHA safe compressed air nozzle.

Could have been worse.. it was 1/2 off HSS and cobalt drill bit day.

Next time I go I'll bring the digital.

Pontiac, how about we all just post our Christmas wish list, and you swing by Boeing and get us set up. FedEx GROUND ain't that expensive for tools, and they are far better than United Parcel Smashers.

Franzie, my friend, that has to be one of the funniest things I have read in quite some time! Almost as funny as the good doctor's post earlier today on the products forum!

Yup.. the same people who brought you the 747.
They have the 747 prototype parked at Boeing Field in seattle along with the 737 prototype.
Over at the museum they have a ton of stuff.

I think Boeing was charging the taxpayers $600 for a toilet seat for B-52 bombers.

I owed the IRS $1000 last year so I sent them 2 toilet seats and told them to keep the change.

The toilet seat only amounted to $5.00, the balance of the cost was paperwork (non absorbent variety) that the government required to accompany the toilet seat.
Bottom line, would you want the aircrew of a B-52 to get their *** pinched by a defective toilet seat, given the ordinance they have to get even with?

Pontiac,

I bought Ti tubing from Boeing Surplus back in 1988 for my wood fired sauna. It was $8 per lb. back then less the 20% discount I got for being an employee. Great stuff but harder than **** to cut. Make sure to use cobalt drills for drilling and get the hardest and smallest teeth saws to cut it.

Good luck!

Albin
