Full size bed frame headboard

Here's a pic of a full size bed frame made out of 2" ,1",1/2" square tubing, this isn't the final product yet. Its for my younger daughter. The scroll came from "decorative iron"and the top caps. You can't really see it too good but the 1/2 " square tubing is on a diamond pattern on the 1" (not perpindicular to the bottom and top 1". David

Headboard

I cut a small block of wood and then clamped each 1/2" piece and then tacked and moved on to the next one. As far as the finish goes I bought some Rustoleum in a hammered finish but my daughter just wanted it in black. I told her I'd try the hammered finish and if it didn't look good I'd spray it black for her. Too bad I don't live a little closer to some place that would powder coat it but I live out with the sticks. The original plan was for something a little different but she likes it as is. David

echo, I think you'll like the hammered finish. I've used it several times and it always turns out looking good. Great job on the headboard too !!

I just finished a firewood rack and sanded it to bare metal and the phosphoric acid then primed and then black paint.

I not too happy with the finish on the rustoleum but it is needed for the outside piece. I have 3 coats of paint on it to cover up the crappy weld job I did.

I too am getting iron for a bed frame and I think I'll thin the rustoleum before I paint which may cause it to run. chance you take.

I live on the coast and we in Louisiana invented rust. In fact on the first day, God said "Let there be light" not because it was the first thing to do but it was so that we could see our ironwork rust.

Bed pics

Here's a couple of pictures of the finished product. My daughter decided she had to have it black. I used Rusteoleum black textured finish and some hammered silver. My wife was smiling when she saw it, and said maybe this welder thing wasn't such a bad idea! David

Don't have any daughters, welded bed frames would have been a good idea for my three boys. With heavy stock, and structurally sound welds. Man-o-man were they rough on stuff when younger. Nice lookin'n bedframe.
