NorthernTool are a bunch of...

...idiots
Kid wanted that neat mini rollawaytoolbox for christmas, usually $129.99, on sale right now for $119.99...

+ $147 for shipping??? WTF????? Woman at NT said "I'm sorry, but the computer says shipping is $147, there's nothing I can do about it"

I checked with FedEx & UPS, both quoted about $60... I'm done with NT, catalog went straight in the trash.

it must be a mistake. Call back and ask to talk to a supervisor. They and check into it and maybe get it resolved. Is there a Northern Tool store near where you live?

Nope, nearest one to me is in Texas.. & I'm in Los Angeles... but all the Chinese Torin brand stuff gets unloaded about 100 miles from here before being shipped off to Minnesota...:

I've pulled that thing up on their website 3 times in the past 20 minutes.
1st time: $147
2nd: "shipping is included in the order" (ie: free)
3rd: "Please call 1-800-221-0516 for a quote.

I give up, they evidently have NO idea WTF they are doing

Is it this box; Torin Junior Rolling Tool Box — Model# TBR3406AX ??

I put in 96001 or 96007 for shipping and it comes back $0.00 for shipping ..

Pretty Strange thing you've got going on there.

I've never bought anything from NT, but I do buy stuff from HF. Good thing there's one right down the street!

Does NT ever have any promotions like Enco, where they'll ship for free? I guess if there isn't one now, it doesn't really help you for Christmas, does it.

BTW, I did the calculate shipping thing for a couple of locations, home and business as well, and got $0.00 also.

Northern Tool is notorious for the ol bait & switch . Their catalog price gets your attention, but when you factor in shipping, LOOK OUT! Funny ENCO can ship the same thing out of Atlanta for about half the price Northern Tool can ship from Minnesota. So look at a map, and explain that one to me!
Makes one wonder if Northern is getting a little money back from the shipping now doesn’t it?

Thumbs down

Sears wants $202. for shipping thier 20" drillpress that they don't carry in any of thier U.S. stores. It's available on-line or from the catalouge only.
I asked where I could go to pick one up at a distribution center and they said you can't.

No, but from the small amount of dealings I've had with our store they will be as much or more than the real Sears 45 miles away...

How about Grizzly or Delta? I avoid anything sold under the Craftsman/Sears brand that has an electric motor...

speaking of which...

Okay, i won't get a welder from northern tool... I have looked at a site called cyberweld. Are the people there hard to deal with? The seem to have a pretty good deal on the victor super-range. If anyone has had bad experinces with them, i will save up for an extra few months and buy it at the normal price of 400$ insted of 250$. I have never ordered anything from nt, but i now know not to. Thanks for the advice.

metallurgy,

I don't have any experience dealing with Cyberweld, but I did buy a SuperRange II from Indiana Oxygen Co. on a "buy it now" auction on Ebay. They shipped the same day they received my payment, and it arrived at my door the next day. They have very good prices, you can buy from an Ebay auction, or just buy it from their website, Welding Supplies From IOC.

Welding Supplies from IOC Ebay store

Welding Supplies from IOC online storefront

Here's their Ebay listing for the basic SuperRange II set: Victor SuperRange II in IOC Ebay Store

This listing is for the SuperRange II with toolbox to carry it, and guage guards on the regulators: SuperRange II with toolbox and guage guards

IOC's ebay auctions include FREE shipping in the US.

cyberweld OK

I bought a maxstar 200 SD, contractor kit and a set of welding cables from cyberweld a few months ago. I called in the order instead of using the online store. They where very friendly and had all items in stock I am in Northern Va and I had the stuff next day. I believe they are in NJ?

Also Try www.brwelder.com
They are in Maryland. I have bought 2 machines from them with no problems.

good luck
Brian

I bought a couple of truck boxes from them and after paying the shipping I could have bought Weatherguard locally for the same price. The boxes didn't even have weatherseals around the doors. I don't deal with them anymore. Their shipping on larger items are a ripoff.
