Greetings, All...

I just got my new toy assembled and checked out...she's a real beauty! $199 + tax in Valdosta GA this morning, I think we're gonna be real happy together.

Rock,

You're going to really like that saw. I have spent a quality 6-7 hours in the last two days cutting 1 7/8" tube at 22 1/2°. Every cut was right on. I've had my saw for almost 5 years and it is still like brand new. I really like the 20-24 vari-pitch bi-metal blades.

Congrats!!

Considering that it came from one of the traveling sales events, the quality actually looks quite decent. Good call.

Where did you buy it and what brand is it? It looks like a nice saw and appears to be better than the HF saw.

You can buy the saw from http://www.homier.com for $199 + shipping. I got it for about $300 delivered which isn't bad.

Here's the kicker though. The first saw I ordered said it would ship Overnite Transport. Well after a while my order showed Backordered. I emailed them and they replied the saw would be shipping that day (I think they screwed up). So then I go check my order status and see that it has shipped UPS GROUND. Yeah that's right... a 150lb saw UPS Ground. I emailed them again after I saw that and they said contact them if it arrived damaged.

Shows up a week later and the box does not look 'that' bad. I'm thinking... whew it arrived in good shape! Then I opened it.............

Homier had shipped the saw UPSIDE down. They put the UPS shipping label on the bottom side of the box. So it made it's trip to California riding on the motor. It smashed the belt cover, pushed the motor upwards in the mount and broke the belt tensioning knob.

I emailed them and they had UPS come pick up that saw and shipped another one Overnite Transport which I just got a couple of days ago. The first one would not cut very well even after I sort of tweaked it back into shape. This second one seems to be better, but I have to install the Bi-Metal blade to be sure.

For the price, it's a good deal. Had Homier not shipped mine UPS for some reason I'm sure it would have been fine. The lady didn't know why they would have shipped it UPS Ground and boy the UPS guys were complaining at delivery and at pickup of the broken saw due to the weight! lol

Well I got some behind the seat time with my new Homier swivel head saw today and I figured I'd post my findings. This replacement saw cuts MUCH MUCH MUCH better than the first one I got that was damaged in shipping.

1. The stock blade was junk (go figure)
2. Installing a Grizzly 64 1/2" 20-24 Variable TPI Bi-Metal blade produces very clean semi-fast cuts on tubing and squar stock.
3. The saw cuts remarkable true and straight with very little blade deflection or wander
4. The saw does not have a thermal overload motor and it also lacks power. You can stall the saw with too much down feed pressure. I think a 1/2hp motor with overload protection will be on my purchasing list, for both performance and peace of mind.
5. The swivel head feature is nice and it did 45 degree miters very nicely
6. The saw is pretty easily moved
7. You can tilt it into a fully vertical position. Though it lacks a vertical table, you could make one pretty easily.

It's no Ellis 1600 - but then again it would take 9-10 of these saws to equal an Ellis 1600 cost wise. I think this is a very nice saw for a home shop. It certainly cannot be beat in terms of performance of features for the price. It's a solid saw, does not feel very cheapish either. The same saw from Grizzly is $500 shipped.

Recommended by me... though I know that does not mean much! lol

unixadm,

I have found that the 1/3hp motor does a fine job. It has never overheated and if you use the proper feed rate you not only get the nice square cut that we are all looking for but the blade does not wear out. Too much feed rate will cause the blade to deflect and cause excess wear.

I think that as you use the saw you'll see that it really does have enough motor.

Glad to hear that the new saw is working well for you!
