More Yard Art... little people

DaveD's yard art, "The Guardian of the garden" reminded me of the project I did that motivated me want to learn how to weld. It was almost a year ago now, that a friend of ours mentioned they wished they had some little figurines for their garden. I decided to do it as a surprise...

It wasn't the first thing I'd tried welding. I'd welded horseshoes and angle iron. Stuff that laid flat. These two figurines, a little man and a woman really challenged my complete lack of skills!

The first things I learned was that the red welding rods and some gray rods made a lot of sparks and blew away a lot of metal The white rods and some different gray rods made some nice gobby welds that looked like bird poop! The fat rods would stick and not want to come lose and the skinny rods would burn real hot!

Well since then I've learned a few more things. Well, at least I know the names of the welding rods, LOL! Anyway the friend was delighted with their surprise gift and since then I've been welding every chance I get!

Thanks! No stainless, only mild steel. I bathed them in a strong Clorox and water solution to try and 'brown' the metal.

I know you stick welded your couple. Cute. Maybe if MIGed I figured somebody would recommend a little more "stick out."
