Hobart Stickmate 205 AC to Portable Generator

I have a Hobart Stickmate 205 AC welder as seen here and I also have a Troy-Bilt 6200 Running Watts Portable Generator as seen here. I'm wondering if it is possible to run my welder with my generator? I can't connect the welder to the generator currently because the generator doesn't have the required 220 receptacle however it does have a "120 240v 4 prong" receptacle as seen in the link above. Is that generator receptacle capable of running my welder with some kind of special adapter or am I out of luck?

You can plug it in with adapter but I am not sure it would run it if you did. These type machines are fairly greedy with electric demands, they are cheap to buy but not efficient, not a big deal plugged in to the wall but problematic with limited gensets. I think it would take about 8000 watts to power that machine decently. Says it has 9 K surge, maybe??? Spose you could try it.
You need a plug that fits the gen, a 3 conductor cord, ideally a number 10 and a recept, a 6-50-R that fits the welder.

I don't believe the genset will pull the load on arc strike. I believe it will trip the genset breaker.

The numbers appear to work, but the little gensets don't have the reserve/surge capacity to support striking an arc.

Welder plugged into a generator

Hi

I have a Lincoln AC-225 and I had it plugged into a Generac 4000 watt generator. Here is what I got. I could weld 3/32 rod 6011 and 6013 barely with the setting at 140 amps and that was it. I couldn't get it to work over 140 amps on the welder dial. And it wasn't really 140 amps. It stuck a lot. I did not have the full range of the welder. Although I did some welding with it, there is no comparison to welding with a gas engine arc welder. The gas engine arc welder by far is better at welding. I bought an old Lincoln weldon 130 which is a gasoline welder and generator. I am selling the Lincoln buzz box and the Generac generator. I could have saved some money if I did this in the first place. Just my 2 cents.
