    Help With high freq. box.

I bought a miller hf-20-1 high freq box off ebay for my dialarc 250. I hooked it up and tried to weld aluminum and it ate the tungsten. I am using 1/16 green tungsten and aluminum filler metal. Any suggestions? Thanks..

Even when you strive for perfection the results are marginal.
So one must at least strive for perfection. And I still love the smell of 5P in the morning!

According to the chart I am looking at, 1/16" electrode, pure tungsten running ACHF would be good for 1/16" aluminum at up to 90 amps running pure argon. Did you try to run more than 90 amps thru it and burned off the electrode? Also, how did you prepare the electrode? The electrode should melt into a ball for you. Some say to ball it on a clean piece of metal using reverse polarity (EP) till it forms the desired size ball, then let it cool and switch to AC. I've tried it, and it doesn't take much current to ball the electrode with electrode positive. Mind you, I have next to no practical experience with aluminum, so lets hear some others chime in.

I have a Lincoln HF unit. Is the spark coming out ok? How is your gas flow? It sounds like too much current.

I don't think the spark is coming out right because I have to touch the metal for it to start.

    Kipper,

Did the remote come with the HF-20-1 unit? If not then you will not get gas or HF to your torch. Also, the manual for this is on the Miller website.

I downloaded the manual, and no remote came with it. I have a gas valve on the handle of the torch.
