Rocky mentions flux core for his rebar projects...

And since I like to weld rebar sculpture I was wondering why flux core over solid? 99% sure I'm getting a HH140 to sideline my lowly 110V 80A A/C welder and just assumed I would stick with solid with gas to achieve the cleaner (less spatter) results. Is flux core somehow better for welding up rebar?

MIG doesn't like a lot of junk, trash, scale, rust and or coatings. Rebar can have all of these. Fluxcore doesn't mind some rust or dirt as much as solid wire. At least it would keep you from having to clean so much before you weld.

Hmmm, well how does flux-core compare to arc welding with regard to amount of spatter? I do mostly weld junk, rebar, etc and was going to get the MIG (HH140) soon.

Not much difference in flux core and stick. The beads will even look comparable.
