What gauge wire SO cord should I use to make an extension cord to feed one of the 230 volt 175/180 amp MIG machines like a HH180, MM175, or Lincoln SP-175??

Cord is going to be less than 25 feet long, most likely around 15 feet.

I would use 10/3 and would make it 25'.

I'd agree with you about the link if he had used SO type cord instead of NM-type cable! I've seen hundreds of extensions made from NM over the years, but it just ain't right! As posted, 25' of 10/3 SOJW, or that ilk, will do just fine.

I have a HH180 and 10/3 so 25' works great Dont us NM it isnt very flexiable
