    partial roll wire feed....

Is there a trick to adjusting the wire feed on a HH180 when the roll is almost gone? I just got mine and i put the partial roll of .030 solid wire i had taken out of the HH135 and it was a Bit*h to get it to feed without sliping. I finaly said to **** with this and put a new roll in. Is there another way? i really hated to waste all that wire.

What do you mean by "slipping?" The wire is slipping in the drive rolls? Maybe you have the wire crossed over by a loop of wire on the roll. See if you can chase the wire back on the roll. Unwind some wire and see if it is wrapped over itself.

What size roll? The small rolls sometimes don't like the end of the wire.

The wire grooves in the drive rolls need to be set for the proper wire size and are alligned. Maybe the feed roll tension needs to be tightened. Also check the spool tension. The spool should almost turn without any effort when the wire is pulled. Make sure the spool fits on the spindle correctly. Disengage the feed roll pressure, pull the wire back to the spool and fasten it to the spool. Adjust the nut and spring until the spool barely has any drag. Then re-thread the wire, then engage the roll tension and set to about #3 and with the welder set to not be energized adjust the feed roll until the wire doesn't slip when triggering the gun when the wire is held to a block of wood. The wire should feed without slipping and bend when fed into the block of wood.

Could the feed rolls for the new (larger) machine be .035"?? Sounds like my feeder when I forgot to check drive rolls when changing spools.

How about a touch of **** rust on the wire??

I'm thinking that at the end of the roll of wire the diameter is so small that the wire is extra stiff. Tighten your drive rolls or throw the last of the roll out. Scott
