    Painting a welder

Paint job on my welder is looking pretty bad, there are a few rust spots and a nice build-up of grime.

I'm thinking of stripping it and repainting it and was wondering if I had to use a high-temp paint or if regular rattle can will work?

It doesnt need temp paint,, but rattle can paint is cheap. If I was going to use a spray can I would just clean the best I could and spray it. If I wanted refinish I would use some kind of automotive paint.

Sberry is right, high temp paint isn't needed. I am doing the same to mine right now, I have taken mine down to bare metal, and filled the low spots (dings). Then I'll sand it smooth and prime and paint it. I'll use rattle can as I don't own a paint gun. If you take your time and prep everything right, it will come out fine. Why would someone go through all this trouble for a welder? I am wondering the same thing right now, and my wife thought I was crazy from the start! Maybe it's because I take pride in my equipment even if its used, and besides, its the closest thing to new that I will have for at least a few years.

Maybe you guys know this already, but Ace hardware has a **** decent impliment spray paint line with fan spray tips in rattle cans that works very well. I use a lot of it on my Gadget Garage projects, and it looks good and holds up well.

Nice to know, I was thinking of doing the same thing to mine.

I'm going for something subtle like chameleon paint or faux-chrome.

I think Sberry just loves smelling those sweet death Imron fumes!!! You can tell in both our posting styles we both have breathed a few of those fumes!!!!

I agree on some decent paint because it holds up and looks much better.(as long as it is not green)

I have all the colors. One thing I like about the Ind Imron is there is a good selection of factory-pak colors. You can usually get close to a color you like with no mixing and the pak colors are a excellent match to original equipment. Its even better than that crappy enamal from the OEM most of the time.
