    New Roll of Wire

Today at work I put a new roll of E71TGS on a 135. Welding 3/16 mild steel. It started out fine, but periodically the arc will stutter and the weld will not stick to the base. If you keep going, it seems to straighten out. I'm thinking a bad batch of wire. No flux, bad flux, bad alloy? What do you think?

Arbo, the first thing to always check is the condition of the ground connections. Not just the clamp, but the wire too. Second thing is the drive roll tension, third is the liner condition. Often you will get inconsistant wire feed if your stinger is twisted or has been run over by a jitney. Check to make certain it is not looped around itself.

    Mike,

That's the first thing I thaught of. I did install a new ground clamp, and checked the cable. I blew out the liner and installed a new tip. Checked all the basics, and its still doing it. Tomorrow, I will try a different roll of wire. This was inweld, and we have been running all Blue Demon previously.
