    Forged Rose

I thought I would post a photo of a rose I forged. The flower is made from 1.5" square tube. The stem is 1/2 sq bar and the leaf is 1/4 sq bar. The flower and leaf are gas welded to the stem.

    1. Cut the 1.5" sq tube back about 2 inches at a 45 degree angle on all four sides.
    2. Upset the end of the 1/2 bar to form a "big nail"
    3. Heat the 1.5 tube in a forge to yellow heat.
    4. Draw the four cut sides out with a cross peen hammer on the horn of an anvil.
    5. Start to neck down the 1.5 tube in a Guillotine on your anvil.
    6. When the piece gets narrow enough for the 1/2 bar to slide through, but not the upset end, slide the 1/2 bar down the inside of the rose bud.
    7. Cut the 1.5 tube off at the base of the flower, but be careful not to cut the 1/2 bar.
    8. Gas weld the bar the the flower.
    9. Heat the flower in the forge and start turning the pedals inward to form the flowers shape.
    10. I used a wire brush at red heat to achive the blue/grey finish and sealed it in Linseed oil and wax.

I hope this made sence. It can be hard to visualize without step by step photos.

I guess it depends on what I'm doing with it. Cool thing about these is that they are made from cheap scrap. I have no real material cost in them. A single rose like that I would sell for something around $30. It stands 12" high and the rose it about 2.5" wide. If i'm making more than one then the price would go up alot. They make nice additions to garden gates as well.
