    Paint question

what type of paint is good for spray painting rims back to the original color from rust? I need to paint over some paint because unfortunately all my grinders are burned up .Is there a chemical way of removing paint like something you can find at the auto stores.I want my vehicle to look good since I just put brand new bfg all terrain ko mud grips on at discount tire.

You can get aircraft remover paint stripper at auto parts stores. You probably want to take a look at some wet or dry sand paper while you are there. You can wet sand the rims to smooth them before paint. If you are looking for spray can paint I'd go for the high temp engine paint.

    Sandblasting is better

If you can get your mits on or access to a sandblaster you could get a better job of it. Another thing, I wouldn't use even the best rattle can paint and primer on rims. Rather get some 2 part with hardener preferably epoxy stuff to insure some degree of chip resistance. Rims lead a hellish life down there spinning through the debris. If you can't get ahold of a blaster you can probably strip it pretty well using a 4" grinder and stainless wire wheel.

I was answering from a cost standpoint. If you have a paint gun already then definitely go ahead and get some two part paint. Just let me know what avenue you are taking and I can give you some recommendations. I just recently put my wheels in my blast cabinet and stripped off all the old clear. I went back with some PPG Clear and they look like new. I restore cars as a hobby so I've got all the equipment though.
