    ugly bead!

I am welding light gauge metal 16 gauge to be exact. using .035 wire c25 gas about 15 volt and about 1.75 wire seting on a fairly good machine its a panasonic gunslinger. I am welding a 3 inch 20 inches long piece at a 45 degree angle along the bottom of a metal sheet. where the joint is there is a fine line of either burning though or not penetraiting enough to get a good weld it will hold but it dose not look pretty and takes a lot of grinding to finish it off right . on the lower part of the 45 degree piece i have to weld the 3 inch piece to the top ot a 1/4 inch by3 inch piece standing upright the same thing happens the weld is sound but looks ugly bulgy I'll call it I know I shouldn't have to grind it down this much to make it look nice any suggestions? thans in advance

If I understand your problem the weld is narrow and has a high crown. I would suggest increasing the voltage 1-1.5 volts. 16-16.5 volts is about as low as you can go with C25 and .035 wire and still get a smooth flat bead. You may need to increase the torch push angle slightly to help flatten the bead as well. The second option would be to reduce the filler metal dia. to .030 or .024.
