All those P&H ??'s this vid helps nail it !

At about 7 minutes into this, it gives dates and a brief explaination,
about why P&H made their own welders. In fact, it seems they might have been
at the forefront of going from riviting to welding. Lots of P&H rivited bridgecranes
all around here still doing fine today.
I might add the several I have used, have far less bounce in them
than any contemporary welded crane that I have used has. (Design not the process the reason).

Got some cell pics of the old Beauty
they put out in front, over on National Ave.
    .....need to up-load them later.

In the beginning, the Earth was without form, and void.
When one picks up some wood or metal or stone and shapes it into something usefull
... I beleive that it has to be a deliberate effort to disavow a creator.

As you work these, and join them, you feel the force and the will of He
who formed and shaped the very resorces that you now add your will and force to.
Further one surely can know when your will and force is not aligned with His.

Pretty cool video. I guess it wasn't a stretch for them to branch into welding since they had the need internally for the welders and they already had the electric motor business so they had the engineers on staff to do that kind of work.

I love pictures of old equipment, be it manufacturing, construction or agricultural. There is a growing group of historical construction equipment enthusiasts and I've been fortunate enough to get to a few shows. Its awesome to be able to watch vintage P&H, Marion, and Bucyrus shovels and drag lines working.
