    Stickmate 235 AC/DC and Generator

Bought a new Stickmate AC/DC welder yesterday and extension leads and hooked it up to my 6500 watt generator this morning and it works great. I should have bought an AC/DC welder long ago, Im currently building a 30x30 boat dock and using 2 and 3 inch square tubing, I was using a ac only welder using 6013 3/32 rods and had a lot of problems with burn thru, the Stickmate is a great machine im still using 6013 rods on dc positive and the burn thru has disappeared, vertical welding is a breeze and stick usage is cut almost in half.....for those of you with questions about using this machine with a generator .....go for it , works great and is a cheep alternative to a gas welder....Cant say enuff about the DC option for welding.

Most of my welding is below 190 amps, I have had no problems at this setting, I aware that it will not run a full capacitie, bu 90 % of my work is running at 90 amps welding 14 gauge material. I do plan on buying a gas welder as soon as my pocket book will allow and the work load increases, for now I will keep using my redneck setup....LOL

Well I have had my Hobart welder for a week now and I pushed it to the limit today and all worked just fine, I saved all my vertical welding for last and the little Hobart stickmate welds like a champ. I did find that on vertical welds that the 6011 3/32 rod seams to work the best fo my application. I will be posting pict of the dock soon.

    Dock Pictures

Here are some of the pictures of the dock im building using the Hobart Stickmate AC/DC welder running off of a 6500 watt generator Dock is 30 ft by 30ft with a 15 ft pier and a 60ft walkway. The Stickmate does a great job welding the square tubing @ about 90 amps DC+ , I would say that they way im welding its runing at about 90% duty cycle with no problems at all using 3/32 6011 and 6013 rods. I have a Lincoln sa200 on sight also and have tried it also and I like the Stickmate better because of the fine tuning, less burn-thru by far,
