I've notice that standard fixed shade helmets start out with a plain lense then their are some gold colored lenses and ive heard about cobalt blue lenses can anyone tell me what a different color lense will do? and how many different colors of lenses?

gold lenses are only surface coated

The coating is only on one side and can become scratched. Years ago I did have a gold colored glass lens. It had nice clarity. I think it got dropped and cracked. Many of the lenses now are plastic. While they are lighter, they are easily scratched, even with a paper tissue. The old-fashioned green glass actually blocked heat well and has good clarity, just not much contrast between the arc/puddle and metal.
I think Phillips safety sells lenses made with optical quality glass. I don't use passive, except if my lens has dead batteries.
