    need help asap!

hey everyone i need help asap with my problem. got my cylinder refilled and hooked back upto my 135 and now it keeps blowing the lines off at the fitting where the gas enters the welder, and where the hose hooks upto the piece that sends the gas out to the gun. no matter how i regulate the gas from the tank the pressure keeps building and blowing the lines off. if im lucky i can get 2 seconds of actual gas flow but then it just stops?? i just bought this welder and i have no clue what to look at... this seems much more complicated than a car to me... please help me asap, all help would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like the regulator is stuck open. Did you blow out the gas bottle connection per the instructions in your manual before hooking up the regulator? There could be a piece of dirt in there. I don'tknow enough to tell you how the clean it or even if it clean befixed by a consumer. You may need to take it to a welding/gas shop.

Back off adjustment of regulator (turn adjuster all the way counterclockwise) and see if it STOPS gas flow..... If you had regulator set at your "normal" working settings (CFH) and you cracked tank valve you could have blown the diaphragm of regulator....

Most quality regulators have filter in shout (CGA connector) to prevent dust and dirt from entering regulator... The SMITH brand regulators supplies by Hobart is example....

Standard procedure is to close tank valve and bleed off pressure on regulator and back adjusting screw off to point where there is no tension on adjuster (diaphragm) when done for the day or whatever .... When you start up, you turn on tank valve and adjust regulator to proper flow.... This is proper procedure with all regulators and IF one uses it, regulators will last for years.... IF you "shock" the diaphragm in regulator by hitting it with full tank pressure and not having it adjusted for no flow, you may have damaged it (diaphragm) and you are getting tank pressure bleeding past diaphragm into "welders" gas system...

Solution is probably to take regulator to LWS and have it tested and if necessary, repaired... Replacement regulators are in neighborhood of $100....

Let us know what you find out....

thanks alot guys, it was my friend that put the tank back on for me and to my knowledge he did not back off the regulator and just opened up the gas. i dont know if its very significant but i was incorrect about my model welder... its a 130 xl not the 135 about the only other think i noticed was where the gun goes into the block it looks like there has been an arc in between the 2 orings. however i spoke with the guys at machine and welding supply and also national rental and repair here in gastonia and they say the arcing between the orings shouldnt have damaged anything. they basically said the exact same thing u guys said that the diaphram was damaged. i will find out shortly though! will keep everyone updated. thanks again!

There should not be arcing between the o-rings. It will evenually cause damage. After another user reported damage, I made a note to myself to always check that the gun assembly is fully seated and the thumbscrew is tight.
