Hobart or miller arc AC/DC welder?

So as it states which for one is better and is there really a difference other than price tag? I'm not planning to buy soon but for future reference which should I go with?

This is one of the only cases where the model is the same with a different jacket, get the Hobart.

Check craigslist and buy a used one of either Miller, Hobart or a Lincoln. Most of the used ones have gathered more dust than have done any real welding. Can be had for a fraction of new price. If you are stuck on new, follow Cary's advice. You won't be sorry.

However, do stick to your guns and get an AC/DC unit. For a little more, they provide a lot more. Agree with the other posters, you can throw a blanket over all three brands and most guys couldn't tell the difference at the business end. New, I think the Hobart is the least expensive and has about 10 amps on the Lincoln.

Don't forget to check with your LWS! I did, and got the Miller for the same price as the Hobart. "IF" I have to sell the thing down the road, I'm betting the Miller will command a little more $$ on resale. Seems on the used market people will pay more for Blue. The red model is only 30-125A.

Just today I got a like new Thunderbolt ac/dc with #4 25ft leads and came a TIG torch, bottle of Argon for $550. It would have cost that for a Hobart with tax. Look on Craigslist they are good deals there from time to time.

I ran a few beads tonight and this is really nice as I have never used a DC welder. Never done TIG either. WoW This craigslist find got better as this is a (903686) 300AC/200DC. Someone gave me a old tombstone few months ago witch got me learning stick read about how much people speak of DC. I been surfing craigslist for few weeks before i found this one and did not know miller made a 300amp thunderbolt.

Congratulations on your purchase. DC welders tend to smooth out the welding learning process due to the arc not being switched on & off at 60 cycles a second...U.S., 50 for most of the rest of the world...and may someday be here as well...there is talk.

I bought the Hobart last week and love it , and it was about 70 bux cheaper, But if you like the color blue then buy the Miller, that's the only difference that I can see.
