    6gr

I am awaiting to start apprenticeship for local 86 here in seattle, I have most of my certs I will need. I was told by the coordinator to go after my 6GR. I have never heard of it, I have only ran 6G with 6011 root and 7018 fillet. Anybody have any idea what it is?

Find out WHICH restriction, here are some example restriction test fixtures you can also make for yourself (scroll down until you see them):

Thats some good reading there. I took a 6G 7018 6" pipe test at a refinery and they made up their own test. From the AWS or API book that was 3" thick. Some off this page and some more off another page. Lots of failures and the inspector watched the whole time and a bad visual was an instant fail if he didn't like the looks both inside and outside the pipe. After about 6 hours of welding it went to x ray if he liked the looks. Then if you passed that test you did a 2" 6G SS tig. Oh and a 2 hour 350 question written test before you even struck an arc and you had to score an 85 or higher. Some of the questions were stupid and most was right out of books i studied for weeks before. Good luck...Bob

Look at the pictures more closely. You obviously went over them too quickly.

Save pics and ZOOM if you need to.

They simulate restrictions such as adjacent boiler tubes, where you can't put your stinger or TIG torch where you might like.
