    Auto Arc 130 Welding trouble

I am new to wire feed welding...have always used a stick welder for hobbyist projects.

I bought a Hobart 500549 Auto Arc 130 Wire Feed MIG Welder. I am using flux-cored wire. When I weld sometimes the wire will not flow smoothly, but will pulsate...if I press the trigger on the gun while I am not welding it doesn't do this.

The other challenge I have is that it will occasionally stop feeding the wire all together. I will stop welding for an hour and then it will work again. ??

I have tried different tensions, and wire feed settings. I have replaced the tip a few times. I am holding the tip about 1/2" from the puddle.

First off get a block of wood hold the gun at an angle like you were welding, let the wire bend past the wood. Adjust your feed roller tension just tight enough so the wire will feed with that little resistance given against the wood..
I think the reason your machine is stopping is because your going over the duty cycle and the thermal limit switch is popping and then it cools and resets it's self... Check your manual for the duty cycle. It will explain the reasoning behind it..

Thank you for the info, I looked in the manual and found the graph for the duty cycle. I was overworking the welder, and didn't know about the duty cycle.

    Thanks again!
