    Wind chime, a lil help?

I am my neighborhood's notorious tinkerer, so from time to time I'm asked to fix something for someone, and on the rare occasion build something. My neighbor asked me to make a pair of wind chimes. 4ft tall, harmonious(sp?), odd number of bells, one of them needs to ship from Ohio to California.

I know you guys do a lot of the bells made out of old compressed air cylinders, so I figured this is a good place to ask.

I'd like to make them out of pipe or tubing, fairly simple, with a cool stand. I'm probably going to hang them with small hemp rope (for that outdoorsy feel). I guess what I'm trying to figure out is what pipe or tubing might have a good sound, before I go buying the material. Any help you can offer would be amazing.

If this first site can't help, pass on the job. "engineering chimes"
Here is another on tube length calculating "wind chimes"
Another from a blacksmith site "bells, gongs and triangles"
These three should be all you ever need enjoy
glen, been there, done that and probably broke it!If you aren't on the edge. You'r taking up to much room

I've used EMT (conduit) with good results, about 1 1/4" diameter...the 7 footer sounded particularly good, but four foot will be good, too. You have to have "an ear", and from there can use an electronic piano as a stone generator. there are sites on the web that will give many different tone combinations, and even tubing lengths, just search. Ther material used for the clanger makes a huge difference...just experiment!

http://www.anvilfire.com/FAQs/bells.htm bells, gongs and triangles math and design from a blacksmith site.

http://home.fuse.net/engineering/Chimes.htm More than most would like to know on the making of chimes.

http://www.metalwebnews.com/howto/wchime/wchime.html another site for the math of the sound of the chimes.
Copy and paste maybe this will work
