Hobart 300 Amp Engine Drive ID

I recently acquired what appears to be a home built welder generator. Curious as to anyone that might be able to help me figure out more about it. The engine appears to be an early gm. 216 or 235. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Serial # reads DW53133. It's rated at 40 v 300 a @ 1500rpm.
Other tag information is a SPECS. 839 near the bottom of the nameplate.

This appears to be one of the early Hobarts sold as a DIY engine drive project in the 30's to 50's. I believe usmcpop had a copy of a Hobart ad for one of these back in the day, and I have seen a picture of a similar set up on this forum with a Model T rear axle. Will check further.
