I have a hobart handler 175 and the wire speed is acting up, if yo turn the Dial to 10 the speed is fine for the most part but if you turn the speed down it slows to a stop some times. any thoughts maybe the swith is bas and if so where can i contact some one to purchase a new one.
I would first look for cheap and easy to fix mecanical cause for your wire feed problem. Lower wire reel drag to minimum that will prevent over riding wire turns on reel when wire drive stops. This is called 4-9. Installing Wire Spool Adjusting Hub Tension in owners manual.
Owners manual 6-8. Troubleshooting Table on page 28 list many things to check that could be causing your problem. Blocked or under size contact tip I would check next. Is electrode lead insert all the way and secured with thumb screw?
After all these things are checked while it could be electronicd speed control problem it is not likely caused by speed control poteniometer the wire speed knob adjusts but some other electronic speed control problem because the speed adjustment seems to be working.
I loaded mine up with 30 setting up to do some FCAW and noticed that the wire didn't want to feed. It seemed the trigger was not engaging but then again I could see the whell of wire just sitting still but the feeder was running. i eventually got wire out the end. The tip is ok. I don't know anythnig bout the liner. After class tomorrow I'' have my buddy go over it and see if I't me or the machine.
