    Did I kill my TA185?

Was brazing some parts together last night at about 130 amps DC when the arc got a bit funny. I stopped and restarted things....output with an arc struck and the pedal to the wood is 6 amps....even with with the amps set at 185. Switched it to scratch start with the same results. Pedal position seems not to change anything.

Is it something stupid I can diagnose/fix at home? I've probably only got about 50 hours since I bought it in 2007. I checked my input voltage and I've got 237 volts across both hots with the unit plugged in and running. My Mig, compressor, plasma and other 220V toys work fine....so I don't think it's input power related.

    Any ideas?

Might be bad wire or connection to foot amp control. Does it still work ok as a stick or TIG welder without the peddle?

When owners manual warns only trained service technician with proper protection should vacuum debris from welder as scheduled preventative maintenance maybe I should not buy that welder.

Your welder has a computer controlling the welder. When you start the welder its computer checks welder then display trouble code that tells trained service technician what is wrong with your welder. Call Thermal Arc welder service number then tell them the trouble code so they can tell you cost of repair. http://thermalarc.com/thermalarc/abo...e-support.html

You can down load your welders service manual at this link.
