A 187 needs the kit. It doesn't have the circuitry to run a spool gun. That is the change that made the 187 into the new 190; spool gun plug and play.

The 3035-10 did not work with my HH187. I found out the hard way that there is a difference in drive motor voltage that will not produce enough wire speed. Purchased the Spoolrunner 100 and seems to work fine.

I saw a guy on U-tube that sells a wiring conversion kit for horbart 140 and 180 welders ,so you can use a spool gun .maybe there is a conversion kit for other horbart welders .

This should help. It's from user snoeproe over weldingweb.com: "You should be able to push 5356 al wire through the stock gun. A teflon liner will assist in running al wire through the stock gun also. You will need the spool gun to run the softer 4043 al wire."
