Welding cart tower design

Im building a more vertical, tower-like cart that will house my mm 211 and pm 45 plasma along with a 125 cf c25 bottle and a later 125 argon bottle. There will be a bottom drawer to house consumables, gloves, spoolmate, etc. I bought some fancy ball bearing polyurethane with reinforced nylon wheels that can hold 700 pounds each. The casters are 4 inch polyurethane as well. Ill post more pics as I progress.

Here's a little more progress made. You will see in the pictures a couple of tie straps around parts of the frame as well as a car jack to fight the unforgiving heat distortion. After welding different areas to curve the heat, I was able to get it back into perfect square And of course, I will be painting it sail blue. Stay tuned...

Now you can secure your shielding gas cylinder. It and the flow gage regulator will work just as good laying down and be safe.

I once was at Truck Atoll Hospital to see their decompression chamber. The O2 cylinders were secured. They must of been more than 50 ea 250 cubic foot HP air cylinders standing around unsecured. Scary!! They didn't have a compressor so they filled the air cylinders at the dive club to operate the chamber. We fixed the dive club's Mako HP compressor. It had bad forth stage outlet valve which is most common problem. A lot of scuba diving tours at Truck. Some of the bend cases go to Guam Navy base chamber when Truck's chamber is busy or OOC. Hope they are better equipped now.

Yes it is very dangerous to have such high pressure cylinders just standing with no straps, especially 50 of em' Actually the build of this cart was influenced from my other crappy cart that was very unsafe to roll and did not have a proper mounting area for the tank. I saw the episode of mythbusters where they severed the valve off of one and it went clean through a brick wall! Scary.

I managed to get some work done on the cart even with work in the way. Anyway, I welded up some 1 inch square tubing for a place to mount the gas cylinders to. I will be using small tie-down straps to hold the bottles to the cart, simple and inexpensive. I also made the shelves for the machines to sit on. They are plasma cut 7075 T-6 0.65" sheet, a little overkill but I had it.

Earlier today I got lucky at Home Depot and found a 7 foot spool of 6 gauge/3 copper stranded cable in the closeout rack for 50% off! It was originally $3.06 per foot but the nice lady charged me for 3 feet only. I will use this as the main 220 volt power supply extention cable for the whole cart. This cord is massive, dollar in photo displays how big this stuff is!

Sweet project. I like the idea of getting all or most of your commonly used tools together. Good luck on finishing it all up and getting some paint on it

Thanks Bob, yeah hopefully I can get this cart done the end of the week because I have some other projects and customers that are lined up. I'll have to get some more steel and other miscellaneous parts to finish it but its close.

Yes I do, sorry for the delays everyone, just finding time between work, family and this Anyway, I took these pictures about three weeks ago or so and they show the work for the drawer which is riveted aluminum sheet over welded 1/2 in. square tubing. This really makes for a nice sturdy drawer. Since this cart is going to hold about 30-350 pounds worth of gear, I added some angular gussets on the casters for more strength. I added ALOT more since these photos but I will take some more once I am finished which will be definitely this week. I should have it painted hopefully tomorrow or wednesday. I am also looking to add a very loud alarm to my cart. Something that would activate once a perp scum would lift or tilt one welder.
