Need some advice - steel workbench

    Hello All,

Looking to replace a plywood workbench with a piece of steel.

    size 3.5ftx7ft

What thickness should I look for and what is an aver good price for something like this? I was thinking 1/2" would be good and the local steel yard quoted me $300 for a 500lb piece cut to size.

I'll be mount a vice to the workbench and didn't to get something too thin.

    Any advice?

    Scott

1/4" or 3/16" will give you a sturdy bench. If you get 1/2", I hope you have a 330 to move it around.

If your top is flimsy, weld an angle iron frame underneath it to shore it up - 1/8" or 1/4" max.

    Good luck and weld on
