I have been welding for 12 years now and I have tried just about everything i thought I could but obviously I am not using the right technique. I have passed my vertical "open root" test, but when i weld my root in the overhead postion, the top side of my root the "root reinforcement" which should be at least flush or within -1/16 " but I end up with a serious convexed root reinf.
DrIQ suggested that i change the gas and the rootspecs but unfortunately in a test you cant do that. the test is on 1/2 " SS plate with a 60 deg. groove angle,OPEN ROOT w/ 1/8th root face and 1/8th root gap, dual shielding gas(75/25)gas flow rate is 35-40, w/ a flux core wire(.045) My wfs is 325-425 and my volts are within24-27. I did gret on my vert. at 325wfs and 27volts.
I have tried everything. One thing I was wondering is,what if I changed my nozzle to a tapered tip.
Any One with advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks
