Does anyone own the NT helmet they're selling now for $120 ? Item number 1644910. It has a battery backup, but so far I can't find out if the battery is replaceable. And if it contains "slides/tracks/grooves" for mounting magnifying glass plates, for those of us who don't like to wear glasses while welding.
I have the Northern Tool AD helmet, model number 1644910.
It was given to me by my son as a gift. He bought it with a discount coupon he had, so he paid something like $89.00 for it. Overall, the auto-darkening part works well, and the I'm considering the magnifying lenses too, so I don't have to wear my reading glasses under my safety glasses.
It does have 2 replaceable batteries, Panasonic CR2450.
Both the inside and outside lenses are replaceable with mounting tracks, but in checking the inside lens is larger at 2 1/2' x 4' inches, with the magnifying lenses for the Miller, etc, being 2' x 4' inches, so I'm not sure those standard lenses would fit the NT helmet?
If anything, my biggest complaint about the helmet is the headgear, and it doesn't seem to fit that well, but I also have a large head, and I broke the headband on the cheap HF helmet too. So, I wonder if it's a personal size problem or just the headgear?
BTW, tried finding a replacement headgear from Cyberweld (Miller brand), and the adjusting nut slipped so the original was much better than the replacement one - so I'm back to the original. Did work on it and tweak it some, and works fairly well now.
