    Cool

Nice work IM!! With the thick layer of firebrick you poured, that 55gal drum really just ends up being a form. Thanks for the recipie. I dig the stack too, that looks really slick! I am getting some good inspiration from this one.

Thanks Blacksmith, I learned some blacksmithing techniques from my grandfather years ago, always on the lookout for old ironworking tools and wish I had more free time to do this kind of work............hippyengineer--thanks, I just followed the instructions on the fireclay bag, but added about 25% more portland to make it harder and of course the stainless needles, last one I made(20 yrs ago) I used rebar to reinforce(and not enough portland) and the heating and cooling expanded and contracted the masonry and caused cracking but still heated great.............have built about 8 small fires so far in the new one and the stack draws excellent, the masonry is slow to heat up but slow to lose heat also....I'll get it all cleaned up and post some pics in a few days(with it burning)

    Finished!!

just in time for some cold weather.......rubbed down with black dye and burned it off(a LOT less smokey than black paint)...still had to run the exhaust fan for half an hour. Got the now 21 year old door bolted in place and a new glass in it(have only broken 3 in those 21 years!)...thought I'd show a few of the details including the door and frame and the concrete legs

nice warm fire on a cold afternoon

here's a few pics while burning....the last pic is a 44" X 60" sheetmetal hood over the woodstove area that is connected to 24' of ductwork and a fan that draws warm air into the center of my shop....now maybe I can find some time to work on some of my metal sculpture projects!DSCN1826-1.JPGDSCN1828-1.JPGDSCN1829-1.JPG
