    Hobart G-213

I have a old Hobart g-213, and I am in need of some help. I have the engine running good and the machine welds great. I have been trying to figure out how to get the electric start to work. What size batteries (cranking amps) do I need and how do I hook them up to to get the 24 volts. Thanks for any help.

    John:
I would get the biggest batteries I could to fit in your welder.
To get 24 volts you have to run them in series not in-line.
Install a battery cable from positive of one battery to negative to the other,
that will give you 24 volts.

Thanks for the help I had 2 lawn mower batterys hooked up but was just not getting enough cranking amps. I am going to try and hook up 2 car batteries to see if that will give me enough cranking amps.

I went and bought another bigger 360 cranking amps lawn mower battery to go with the other new one I already had. I hooked them up to give me 24 volts and also replaced the ground cable going into the machine it was in bad shape. After getting everything hooked up it cranked the engine over and it fired right up. Boy is that alot easier then hand cranking it everytime I want to use it. Thanks everyone for your help, I am going to try and get some pictures of the little beast soon.

It's been a while since you entered your question so you have probably gotten an answer. I just traded for a G-213 and this afternoon I'm going to try the starter. I've been manually cranking it since the batteries are ancient. After I get mine starting with the starter, I'll let you know how I did it.

I hooked up the 2 12 volt batteries to get 24 volts and it cranks over great now. I really like the way the welder runs and welds, the only down side is how load it is but I can deal with that.

I have heard of guys making their own mufflers to "muffle" the sound. Might be a cool project

    Hobart G 213

I just had to buy new batteries and points and condensor for my machine. Before the points stopped working, the machine ran beautiful. Would not start so had a guy fix for me. Now I had to adjust air flow on the choke pull out to get running clean again. Runs good now but don't know why I had to adjust that. Trying to sell and had a call on it today. Hope to sell it because I already have a Licoln 225.
