    Gate Opener Info

Getting ready to build a gate for the cabin and am going to put an automatic opener on it. I am looking for recommendations on a dual swing opener that has solar capability.

The gate will be about 18 feet total (2-9 foot sections). Thanks in advance

There are lots of suppl;iers, but I know King Metals sells them and has them in their on line catalog...also Tractor Supply....and probably northern Tools. Did you consider a slide gate as opposed to dual swingers?

    Thanks HF

The slide gate openers are real pricey. In the KA cat about 2x a dual swing for a solar compatible unit. The price was a killer for this self funded project. I was looking at the GTO series and was hoping someone on the board would have some experience with them.

I have the GTO Mighty Mule on a solar panel. Don't buy their solar panel, though they want too much for it. Shop around. Also It comes with one battery, but it's wise to add a second....I don't buy their batteries either, find a store that specializes in electronics....a lot cheaper. I've been running mine for 6 years. This is a 16 foot gate.

Thanks Rocky. I have an idea now that they are worth the money. I wish I could go the single swing, I have too much slope.

Attached is a concept drawing I did

Oh, so your gate has to open out into the road? Would that create a traffic hazard? I only have about 6 feet to the road, from the fence here.

I'm going to move some dirt, but I can't move enough to swing a 16 foot gate. I want it to open in so it does not block the keypad. I have about 25 feet from the road to the current gate. We set the gate back when the fence was put up around the shop.

Use two gates and offset the bottom hinges so that when it opens the gate actually swings up too. I think if you look in the king catalog, or do a google for uphill hinges there are some commercially available ones, but they are easy to make too.

    Try this link. http://guardiangatehardware.com/sp-bin/spirit?PAGE=40

Be aware, if you make you ow that the hinge pins must be inline with each other or it will bind when you try to open it.
