    OT Request

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I needed a small scale that can measure in grams. I got one from E Bay cheap
but I wonder about its accuracy. It measures up to 500 grams in .1 grams. I weighed a 1996 quarter and the scale displayed 5.7 grams and a 1990 dime and it weighs 2.3 grams. Do any of you guys have a scale of quality and could measure the same coins and tell me what your scale displays? I've since ordered a set of class 2 scale weights but won't get them till next week.
    Thanks..........................Nick
    NO.......it's not for drugs

I don't have a scale but here is the US Mint info:

    http://www.usmint.gov/about_the_mint...specifications

    A dime is 2.268 g and a quarter is 5.670 g.

Thanks for the reply. I saw that link. It said for coins still in the system. There's lots of old and new coins in circulation.
I'm thinking an older coin would be heavier than a newer coin. That's why I put the dates

    From somewhere:

    Penny (1959-82) 3.11 g

    Penny (since 1983) 2.5 g

    Nickel 5 g

    Dime (through 1964) 2.5 g

    Dime (since 1965) 2.268 g

    Quarter (through 1964) 6.25 g

    Quarter (since 1965) 5.67 g

Weigh several new-condition coins at the same time and take the average.
