Question Chrome plating, any prep for Me?

I never had anything chrome plated. I fabed a 36"" safety pin, 8" diameter at the hasp. It's mild steel. Any idea what this will cost/,any prep by Me?
    Thank's Tool

The most important steps in the, process are the cleaning and preparation of the item being plated makes no difference what type plating you are having done. If by the hasp end is the head end were the pointy end is held. The inside of the areas of it will demand special attention for a good plate.

From the sound of it, 8" dia it is a longer item. Which may require some hunting to find somebody with large enough tanks.
Also you are talking a one "of" which generally have means a custom shop that deals with one "of's" which will raise the price.

You are located in Cali which has all kinds of regulations that the others don't have in addition to the fed regs. Ask them how well they require it to be cleaned before they start to prep it.

Any and all dirt, grease, rust paint, scale etc. The cleaner it is the less the prep will cost. You might want to be sitting done when you ask?
glen, been there, done that and probably broke it!If you aren't on the edge. You'r taking up to much room

    Thumbs up

Thank's P.S.S. It will go through a 30"Allum. bottle cap and say grape soda.
It will cover the spare tire of My wife's jeep Wrangler. She's been with Pixar
Animation studios 23 year. If You've seen the Movie UP, You'll get it. Wally, Remmy, have made their appearance also on the wrangler. Tool

You shouldn't have any trouble finding a chrome shop in CA...now the chrome won't cover any imperfections, like scratches, and so forth, so you need to polish it up as best you can, otherwise the imperfections will stand out.

Seems that a lot of bikers get their swingarms and stuff plated. Ask around at a bike shop. Here's a few plating places in CA:
