    AircomasterII Welding Outfit

I'm wondering if you folks could give me some advice. Thirty years ago I took a welding course in tech school. Shortly after I bought a set of oxy/acetylene gauges, hoses and accessories. I have never used them and find myself in need of welding something.

I'm wondering if these would still be useful and not unsafe.

If so, I'll pick up some tanks and see how much I remember. The set is marked Aircomaster II Welding outfit. Consists of series 9200 gauges. The number on the acetylene gauge is 806 9202. The Oxygen gauge is 806 9206.

Anyone know if these are decent gauges? Worth using? The whole setup is still in the box brand shiny new. How about the hoses? They appear fine. Wondering if they could be dry and possibly unusable in any way?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

something that old probably may not have flashback arresters, buy some install them!!!

then test everything, dip the hoses in a bucket of water to look for leaks, make sure the regulator does not fluctuate when it flows, it may all still work alright, but yes the possibility of dry rot, or a bad O-ring somewhere is pretty likely.. as long as you test evertything before you put flame to it you should be alright

Thanks. What are flashback arrestors? How would I know if they are present?

Thanks. What's the difference between a check valve and a flashback arrestor?

Here's an excellent discussion of both, from Victor Equipment Co:

    Thanks Zrexxer.

So, am I correct in assuming that if I have flashback arrestors, there is really no need for check valves? It sound like flashback arrestors have built in check valves?

Having said that, can someone recommend a cost effective solution for a small set of oxy/acetylene torches?

    Thanks!

Small set as in small tanks, or small set as in lightweight aircraft style torch?

Sorry. That would be small tanks. (If it makes any difference, I suspect not.) The torches are typical size. (If that means anything.)

This setup is not something that will be used frequently. If I buy arrestors, I wouldn't want junk, but not so sure I need top of the line. Maybe there isn't much difference between manufacturers of these things?

    Thanks!

Harris port-a-torch setup runs about $350
