    Plasma cutting bench

Did I make it wrong? 3/16" x 1 1/2" frame with 3/16" x 1" bars. Next to a 2' x 4' 3/16 bench. Plan on using for plasma cutting. Things under bench are moved when cutting. What I'm concerned about is blow back when I cross bars with plasma torch.

Sorry it took a while to get the picture up. Had to figure out how to resize it with vista.

    Vern,

Don't think blowback from your grates will be a problem. My grates are 2"w x 1/8" thick set on 2" centers and it has not been a problem. I do get a little burn on the grates, but I made my grid so the individual slats are removable (drop in) so they can be easily replaced.

I'd be more concerned with the mess that cutting on that grate will make of the surrounding area. I built my grate over an old 55 gal drum and keep a little water in the bottom. Keeps things nice and neat. No cleanup. Just dump the drum every now and then and flush it out. Just a thought.

I also used a 55g drum- well 1/2 of one - used the 1/2 fer something else.

Added legs and some casters so I could move it around as needed.

Another nice thing about the drum is that I just let the scrap pieces fall into it as well as chuck the little cutoffs that tend to gather from other projects.

As usual you guys are right on target. I've got a new H30 and pay attension to what is said on this forum. The first thing you here is how blow back dammages comsumables. Roll torch to cut holes. always start at edge of base metal, wait for cut throught then move torch. So when I saw blow back when crossing bars I thought trouble. Solution might have been round bar stock and I used square stock. Thought I made it wrong. I'm making usual mistakes. Moving to fast or to slow. Slag builds up under cut, sticking base metal back together. Then won't break apart easy and have to cut again. Everything is okay, just have to get technique down. settings 30a@80psi for 3/16" plate. I know over kill.
