    Hotfoot's Gas Price analysis

I got to wondering if the price of gas today was really any different than past years when compared to the rising prices of other major goods. I particularly wondered about what a gallon of gas at todays' national average of $3.24 represented as a percent (small as it would be) of average new car price for 2008...which is $22,154 (to date).

I then compared that to the year 2000, using 2000 dollar amounts (not adjusted for inflation) of $1.66 per gallon gas, and average new car price of $7,651.

If these figures re correct (I got them off the web).

Gas today = .0001462 the average new car price (told you the percentage was small)
Gas in 2000 = .0002169 of average car price.

The one that always gets me is what we are paying for a bottle of water!

What were folks drinking for the last few hundred years before bottled water became such a fad............

The same thing we old-fashioned folks drink: beer.

    ...Or Milk...

"There was me, that is Alex, and my three droogs, Georgie, Pete and Dim. And we sat in the Korova Milk bar trying to make up our rassoodocks what to do with the evening. The Korova sold milk plus, milk plus velocet, synthemesc or drencrom which was what we were drinking. And this would sharpen you up for a bit of the old ultraviolence"

Get ready fella's. I work for a sign company, and we've been shipping out "4"'s for the flip signs at gas stations all over.

Can you sneak in some water soluble ink in those "4" signs? Please?

The number for average new car price in 2000 does not pass the straight face test. I was only in high school in 1997 but I don't think a new car could be owned for under $10000, especially the average. Maybe a Fiesta or Metro.

Without finding any factual data, I think it is obvious that gas has inflated much faster than other items. If everything, or even most things (like food is starting to) had inflated 300% in that time period the country would have gone into depression over the past 8 years because people sure aren't making 3x what they were 8 years ago.
