im looking into stick welders and am wondering whats the diffrence between the Hobart Stickmate AC/DC Welder — LX235 230 Volt, 235 Amp and the miller Thunderbolt® XL 225/150 AC/DC and 300/200 AC/DC other then color and price i have a hh140 and am very happy with it and hobart just wondering if miller is worth the extra cash thanks
The Stickmate LX and the Thunderbolt XL are the same machine at least where the product lines overlap. I far as I know they come from the same factory. Hobart sells a lower in Stickmate 205 and Miller has a higher end Thuderbolt 300.
If it was me I'd just get the Hobart if you need the 225/160 machine. The Hobart service is awesome, I'm not going to pay a premium for blue paint. My decision may be different if I needed the welder to pay the bills etc.
I believe Ohio mike is right on, i bought the miller lx only because i am partial to blue, i almost spent the extra money on the 300 and then through good advice from talking with SBerry decided that what i do at home now it was more machine than i needed, he was right as usual. But i believe with all i have read through the threads you cant go wrong with the stick mate i believe they are equal machines in there category.good luck with your choice.
