G'day I found this site through welding web and thought it looks great, seems to heaps of knowledge here and I can always use a little more knowledge.

I am a Boilermaker, metal fabricator come Blacksmith from down under I have been working with metal for longer than I care to remember, but I still enjoy it every day.

Welcome to the forum, Simon...this is a wealth of information for all things welding...glad to have you aboard. There is no such thing as a dumb question, so ask anything...we also have some fun, too.
You have a great site, mate...lots of ideas...from Pregnant lady art, tractor restoration, to 'Roo Bars..(folks in the states don't know what a 'Roo Bar is, tho)

Thank you all for your kind words

I will give almost anything ago I have only put a small amount of my work on the website.

I live in a fairly remote parts of OZ, ever time I go to town I see kangaroo's both dead and alive along the sides of the roads, I have made and fitted hundreds of Roobars over the years made and fitted correctly they can save a lot of damage.

Rocky D I am glad to hear There is no such thing as a dumb question as I will probably have a few

Robert, it's not the grinders, it's the toilets that spin opposite from here...

    Ever build a Wildebeest Bar?

Welcome to this site, Simon! I've never seen a "RooBar" but wish that I had a "Wildebeest Bar" that time around 1980 when I hit a Wildebeest in Mikumi National Park, Tanzania. Fortunately, by the time I hit him (or her) I had almost braked to a stop. The impact threw the Wildebeest over the hood of my sedan where it took out the entire windshield. It was lucky for me and my passenger that the animal was too large to go through the windshield's opening. Otherwise my passenger and I might not be alive today! We were able to drive the remaining 200+ miles to our destination, Dar es Salaam, so that the car could be repaired. Driving at 50 to 55 mph without a windshield, however, is very unpleasant.

Welcome from the states welderman. These guys clown around a little, but most of them are really sharp.

A boilermaker in Australia huh? I'm from middle America and a friend of mine offered me a top dollar job welding where he works in Las Vegas; but it's miserable enough welding here in the summer, so I don't know if I'd want to be burning wire all day in the desert. Some of my family has Vacationed in Sydney and the first thing they said when they got back was that it was brutally hot down there, worse than anything we get here states except maybe southern Arizona. So Salute to you I've been lurking here for years and haven't seen even the most bizarre of questions go unanswered yet...
Having seen a couple of episodes of "Orange County Choppers" doesn't make you an ace welder.

    Vacation paradise

    Welcome Welderman,
If you ever get to the states, standing invite to come to Wisconsin in the wintertime, it'll contrast nicely with the heat of summer Down Under. Beer and brats and JD all around. G'Day Mate.
    Jim Don
PS If you think people are screwy Down Under, wait till you talk to some of the people from Wisconsin.

Thank you Jim I appreciate the offer. I just googled 'Wisconsin in the wintertime' and it looks a little cold, what temp do you have there in winter, Where I am it would get down to 0 - 1C (32F) I actually built us a new wood fire last winter and it gets a little to hot inside now. I will start a thread on it.
