    HB 140 vs. Lincoln 3200HD

Looking for a 110v welder to do panel replacement on a car. So for the most part it'll be sheetmetal. I may be welding some plates on the frame, but frame metal is only around 1/8" thick. Will be using gas. May also want to do some aluminum welding.

I've found both of these welders local to me, and would rather just by one, then order one.

I can get the Hobart 140 with cart for $529, and HomeDepot has the Lincoln 3200 for $460. I wouldn't have to pay tax on the HB, but would on the Lincoln.

    Any help would be appreciated.

IMHO, the HH140 is the better of the two machines.

The welders that are sold at home depot or lowes is NOT the same model or quality as the ones sold at the welding stores.

    Another vote for HH140.

I see that sort of statement posted many times ( on various subjects) but how does a buyer know that to be a fact?? Does that mean the HH140 that Hobart sends to say TSC different that what they send to my LWS??..

Its real simple Hobart and Miller make on line of machines. Unlike Lincoln which makes Pro models only sold through professional outlet like your LWS as well as producing a "retail" line spec'd and built for their retail outlets like Lowes and Home Depot. Go to your LWS and ask him to see the catalog page for the HD3200. You won't find it because it is not cataloged. It is made for and only sold by Home Depot. The same way that the ProMig 140 is made for and sold by Lowes.. No matter where you buy a HH140 it is a HH140
Go to Lincolns web site and look them up they are listed as Retail Welding Products

Unfortunately that statement isn't completely true.

I have a Lincoln "Pro-MIG 175," sold only at Lowes. (I got it for $200, and it's a dang good machine, btw.) But let's compare it part for part to the Lincoln SP-175T, supposedly the "professional" version of that machine sold only through welding suppliers.

What would be a good part to compare... Oh, maybe the transformer! SP175T transformer, P/N L7867-6. The Pro-MIG P/N... L7867-6.

How about the big capacitor in front of the transformer... S13490-122, and S13490-122.

Well surely the rectifiers are different, right? Well, no - L12108, and L12108.

Maybe the wire drive motor is cheaper.... L7801 and L7801.

Well, there IS one difference - the Lowes' model has an overload circuit breaker in the back of the case that the "professional" model doesn't seem to have.

The above comparison does NOT take into account the SP175+, which only had one version sold through dealers. And I haven't looked at the new Pro-MIG 140/180 versions either.

I noticed that both SP175T and Power mig 175 had the same circuit breakers mounted in the rear.

I noticed that there are different part numbers for drive roll.

    SP175T uses part # KP1884-1 (.025 smooth & .030/.035 knurled).
    Pro mig 175 uses part # M16190 (.025 smooth & .030/.035 knurled).

    From the manuals.

The Pro-MIG 175 is shipped from the factory ready to
feed 0.023” – .025" (0.9 mm) diameter wire. To oper-
ate the Pro-MIG 175 with other sizes of wire, it maybe
necessary to change the contact tip, drive roll and
    gun-liner configuration. For component configuration
and placement. Refer to the MAINTENANCE section
    on these procedures.

    SP175T
Reversible, dual groove drive roll, shipped ready
to feed .023"/.025" (0.6 mm) diameter wire. The
drive roll is easily reversed to feed .030" (0.8 mm)
diameter solid wire and .035" (0.9 mm) flux-cored
diameter wire. Optional drive roll included in .045"
(1.2 mm) Innershield® welding kit must be installed
    to feed .045" (1.2 mm) flux-cored wire.

The Parts Lists I got from Lincoln's website (P-471 and P-398) both show the M16190 drive rolls.

The 135 "T" and 175"T" series sold at LWS are the same as the WeldPack 3200HD & Weld Pack 175 and the Pro Mig 135 & 175 sold at Box Stores.

LWS has one name, Home Depot has one name and Lowes has another name so they can sell them at whatever price they want and not worry about a price match problem.

The New Pro Mig 140 and 180 are actually different machines than the Power Mig 140 & 180 series.

The HH140 is a HH140 no matter where you buy it

and the difference between the Pro Mig and Power Mig is..........

"The power migs are a much more robust machine with a better cast aluminum drive block and max trak wire drive system for better feedability while the promig drive block is made out of plastic and has the old standard guide tubes."

Are the Pro Mig welders sold at the box stores and Power Mig welders are sold at welding shops?

Lincoln certainly makes is very confusing by having so many models.

Power mig 140 output range is 30-140 amps at 33v (OCV).
90 amps at 20% duty cycle at 19.5v
    wire speed 50-500 in/minute

Pro mig 140 is rated for 25-140 amps at 29v (OCV)
90 amps at 20% duty cycle at 19v
    Wire speed 50-300 in/minute

    I was comparing P471.pdf (Pro Mig 175) and P462.pdf (SP-175T)

P-398 is also a parts manual for SP-175T. Very confusing to navigate around Lincoln's web site compared to Millers.

    Yes.

Pro Migs (ironic as they are not marketed towards pros) are retail and are Tapped machines only

Power Migs are LWS and have 2 models Power Mig C and T
