Was bad accident on interstate 10 in north Florida a couple years ago. Driver of van full of family got nailed by brush hog blade through head. Blade didn't come directly from the mower but was laying on freeway and truck tire running over blade slung it.

On the hole, I got Franz's humor! I plan to buy all the welder's, nail guns, etc, I want before the government decides we're all like this guy and requires classes and licencing for anything bigger than an 8 ounce ball peen hammer.

I'm afraid Blacksmith is all too close to the truth here....at work they make us wear "fall protection" for anyone that goes over 3 or 4 feet off the ground. This consists of a humongous harness with a rope attached to the back. You're like a monkey on a string...so when you're up in the overhead, working and trip on the safety rope you fall, and the harness smacks your gonads up into your stomach, and you hang there like a busted yo-yo, till someone gets you down.

ah but sometimes they work........ Seen a guy fall off of a girder once only 2 stories in the air.......... He wore his harness that day and they got a sicsor lift to get him down..........hahaha he was curseing at himself..........With lots of ribbing from his coworkers who all put their harnesses on without being asked to after that......... Me I was crawling up a ladder at the time without a harness..........I made them hook a hoist to the welder and put it on the deck.....................I have had no practice straddeling a girder..........and figured it was no time to learn.............Rock..

Those harnesses are a great way to get on top of big tanks and such, with the help of a traveling crane!! (and lots of fun to boot) Hey it beats climbing up a ladder attached to a 100 year old 30' platform that's attached with two, 1" welds. Especially when your company won't allow you time to build a new (safe)platform. But wearing a harness every time you want to get on your tippie toes....common!!

We had an osha guy come and tell us to attach our harnesses to the same ladder we were working from. Does this make sense to anyone else? All I could envision was falling to the ground and being nailed in the head by the ladder!

It seems like most of these rules are made totally devoid of concern for the worker, just the companies check book.

If this hadn't been all over the news I would swear that x-ray was fake. I looks doctored up to me.
