Something wrong with Miller helmets I dont know about?

I have a Miller Elite Helmet, used to be called the "Big Window Elite"
I dont really see guys use these helmets. There are over two hundred welders working for the same company I do, EVERYbody has a speedglass or a standard shade type helmet.

Is there something I dont know about his helmet? How come I dont see people using them?

I'd sum it up to the equivalent of Ford vs. Chevy.
Your Miller Elite is a fine hood. Don't sweat it.

Where i work i used to ask myself the same question at times. Then after several years of working with the same guys, i realized that half of them are idiots! Like the man said "don't sweat it."

thinking about buying the miller or the speedglas sl. I like the bigger lens, now have the jackson boss with the halo helmet, doesn't give good coverage on the neck, have to have the bibs on the side and front, adds weight. hows the miller? christmas coming up, go to be careful with the money, any input on these helmets would be helpful. i have had neck surgery, disc removed, plate added, need to be careful about weight. thanks

It also depends on what you're doing, they are a plastic hood, so not the best for overhead applications. I tend to use my elite for tig only, and switch back to my old fibreglass standard helmet for the arc welding I do.

    hi tim here,
I do mostly tig. I do a lot of aluminum, some mig, have a big aluminum project coming up, mig and tig, welding 11 hours a day, 6.5 on sat. when I work sat, 2 a month, I'm 47 years old, so these hours get old. Glad I'm working, like to weld.doing military work. My supervisor has the speedglas sl, showed him the ad out of welding journal, he bought it, likes it. I like the big glass like my boss halo jackson helmet, but I want less weight. 4 sensors seem good too. I wish I could use both for a few days and compare, that is not going to happen where I work. Any input form anyone out is helpful, young or old, just because I've been welding for 30 years doesn't mean i know it all. I like to learn, thanks,

    Tim

I love my miller helmet never had a problem, BUT it is plastic, and I am pretty sure its heavier than a speedglass, I never noticed cuz I have a big fat neck haha!

It seems well balanced though, I dunno. I like it. The brand new speedglass helmets weigh like 13 onces I think.

I have used the Millers...alot of my students use them...I personally use a Nex gen...alot is in personal prefrence and what your local supply house sells...I didn't like the millers because you had to buy special cover lenses...that was my only reason...my nex gen used standard 4 1/2x5 and the inside you can cut with snips to make fit...plus the lense will fit in many diffrent hoods...but there is nothing wrong with the millers...enjoy and use with no fear!!!!!!!!!

I have a Miller Elite helmet. It's a real nice helmet and ought to be for $235.00 2 years ago. The biggest bi**h I have with it is I had to order the special diopters for it as standard ones won't fit it. On occasion the light sensors get in a shadow while I'm tigging and the helmet goes light on me. If I were to do it again, I would buy one of the Hobart auto helmets. A fellow at work just bought one new for $65.00 and it's every bit as good as the my Miller helmet.

I have an XLiX, which is similar to the big window, except with, well - a small window - and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Well, maybe something. I'm sure there are other good hoods out there but I like my Miller so much I'm not even bothering to look until this one quits. I've worn it for hours on end and never had an issue with it.

As Steve says above, the new Hobart helmets are nice too, my buddy just bought one and the thing's so light it's almost unnatural. It's probably not quite as resistant to abuse, but it's just feather light.

**** yea that is a mo-fo, I havent been able to find generic lenses either.
And what hurts more is the company I work for supplies lenses for everybody, unless you have a miller.
