another wire feed problem?

I have a Hobart handler 175 mig i bought about 4 years ago or so. I am a total novice, not even using gas yet...lol. I used it very little. One day i went to use it , turned it on, it powered up, but did not feed any wire. I checked everything(tip too) and it wouldn't work. I opened the door and fiddled with it. Not for sure what is going on. I admit, i didn't take the greatest care of it in hind sight. Meaning.....it sat on the floor in the corner, and got a little dusty. I have read something since about how you have to keep them clean inside and out...my bad. Can that cause a problem? I really only used it around 20 times...but of course, the warranty is long gone i believe. There is 2 welder service centers fairly close...but i'm affraid when i take it, they are going to say it's hundreds of dollers to fix..ouch! any help or ideas and i would gladly be in debt...you know what i mean...lol!

You're going to have to be more specific. The drive motor runs? The machine contactor engages? What do you mean by 'fiddled with it'? What have you tried / adjusted?

Do you have the voltage selector switch set to the purge/fan only selection? If so, the unit doesn't feed wire at this setting.

Well, it's been awhile, but here is what i remember. The switch wasn't on purge. When i turn it on, i believe there is a fan that starts up. The motor that turns the roll of wire doesn't do anything or make any sounds. What i meant by "fiddling around" was more looking for unusual things...like burnt things...With such little use i just wasn't for sure what i could have done to cause this problem..unless maybe keeping it up off the floor on a cart or shelf...away from dust and dirt.

I did the search on the board and noticed the PTC 1 being talked about several times. I'll try the jumper and see. Oh my god, i would kick myself if that is all that is wrong. I have not been able to use it for a year or so...

Be sure the voltage switch is not between settings. It must click into a detent before motor will run. Is there any sound when you pull the trigger, a click or hum ? If not then check the torch trigger leads.

Yeah, i know the voltage knob was okay. The torch leads are a differant story..lol. When i was trying to find the problem, i took appart the nozzle to check the leads...and some how, broke one of the connector leads in half. I never did crimp on a new connector...yet.
